Hecklers prompt Seattle mayor to bolt from community meeting
Mayor Mike McGinn walked out of one of his own community meetings Tuesday night after he was heckled and shouted down by the crowd.
It was supposed to be a conversation with the community, but when a crowd kept heckling McGinn, he had enough and headed for the door.
McGinn was in the Mt. Baker neighborhood making his fifth stop in the Rainier Valley on his own “Engage Seattle” tour.
He was heckled so badly that he took off his microphone and told the crowd the meeting wasn’t productive and that the crowd won.
KIRO TV reports some in the emotional, outspoken crowd shouted they wanted to hear from police, not the mayor, about problems in the neighborhood.
The mayor says he’ll reschedule the meeting. Outside, he spoke with other attendees, but the hecklers returned.
