The Takeover. Aug 29:
History Retrospective: Execution of Sacco & Vanzetti
August 23rd, 2012 marked 85 years since the execution of Sacco & Vanzetti, Italian-American anarchists never proven to be guilty.
Even if they were guilty, we should NEVER let the state execute our fellow people. Our lives are far too precious to trust an impersonal federal government with.
85 years later, the Feds are enacting a surge of Grand Jury trials against radicals (especially anarchists) that have participated in Occupy movements or other recent direct actions & campaigns. The U.S. is the only State on this planet that still utilizes Grand Juries, which are completely undemocratic and opaque legal assaults consistently used throughout history to crush dissent.
It is important to remember that we are responsible for our own freedom and that of our comrades. These freedoms are our birthright – they are not granted by any government, and equally cannot be taken away without the force or threat of violence. If you’ve ever been behind bars, this becomes painfully obvious.
So let us take this day both to remember the illuminating story of Sacco & Vanzetti, and to rededicate ourselves to trusting and protecting eachother. For far too long we have faithful to government, to authority that will only constrain us.
