The Violence In Oakland Will Never Be Forgiven

From Anon. (*corrected to say “Burnside Bridge” instead of “Morrison Bridge”)

Marches for Oakland solidarity marched through downtown and split into a couple groups from Naito Parkway & Hawthorne Street. (Did the black bloc at the intersection disappear?) Another group had marched to the East Side across the Hawthorne Bridge black flags flying. We evaded police barricades at the other side of the bridge by taking sharp turns and switching back to off- and on-ramps and going opposite directions on Highway 99. Police outnumbered. One person reportedly arrested for pushing a cop into a bus (unconfirmed.) Police focused their forces on blocking the rest of Hawthorne Bridge. We marched over to the *Burnside Bridge instead. We took the width of *Burnside Bridge and marched back downtown. Chanting:

WE ALL LIVE IN A MILITARY STATE {{ A MILITARY STATE! }} {{ A MILITARY STATE! }}

THE VIOLENCE {{ IN OAKLAND }} WILL NEVER BE FORGIVEN!

THE VIOLENCE {{ IN PORTLAND }} WILL NEVER BE FORGIVEN!

COPS! PIGS! WE DON’T NEED’EM ALL WE WANT IS COMPLETE FREEDOM!

    * Correction to anon: it was was the Burnside Bridge not the Morrison Bridge.

    Also I like that someone in Occupy Portland said the march was “a perfect mix of chaos and unity”

    Also don’t forget that this same march physically assaulted the black bloc when they tried to move something into the road. Fuck occupy portland! More to come on that topic.

  3. Anonymous says:

    Just because some jerk off tried fucking with you, doesn’t mean they represent Occupy Portland or most of the people there. I wish I had seen that, or that he had tried to put his hands on me. Fuck those guys – they were definitely the minority at the march on Wednesday. Shout them down and take whatever action is needed to defend yourself. They don’t own occupy, and despite their best efforts, they can’t control it.

    Please new chants. This is an advancement for sure, but how will it continue to move forward? “The whole world is watching,” that chant reminds me we are a bunch of impotent robots who are unable to take what we can get. An enabler or maybe a crutch for failing to do what we need to do or what to do next in confidence. We need new tactics, we need different chants, we need to get real with the rest of the people in Occupy Portland. How? Not sure, but that chant is the embodiment of leftism and its failures.
