[SHERIDAN, OREGON] – First Federal’s Sheridan branch, located at 246 S. Bridge St., was robbed at gunpoint about 10:10 Friday morning.

A white male ranging from 5-foot-8 to 6-feet in height and weighing about 200 pounds, entered the bank with a black handgun. He demanded money and fled through a rear door.

He was wearing plastic gloves with a black hoodie, a black mask with eye slits and a pair of sweatpants. The gloves, hood and mask prevented police from getting hair color, facial description, ethnic traits and other potentially helpful identifying detail.

Sheridan High, located just south of the bank on Bridge Street, was locked down for about an hour. So were the Sheridan Japanese School, west of the bank on Monroe Street, and the Faulconer-Chapman School, southwest of the bank on Cornwall Street.

“The doors are locked, students are kept in their classrooms and the curtains are drawn,” said Superintendent A.J. Grauer.

She said students and staff at the high school, located next door to the district office, handled the situation very well.

The main building features eight entry points and they were all secured quickly, she said. She said plans were under way to feed the students on site had the lockdown extended into the noon hour.

Yamhill County sheriff’s deputies answered the initial call. A McMinnville police canine team was requested to attempt tracking of the suspect.

The Oregon State Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation joined in the investigation, and the city of McMinnville offered its assistance as well.
