Occupy Macy’s parade on Black Friday

From Willamette Week.

THE NEW BLACK: Interested in marking Black Friday without joining an anarchist-planned, shopping-mall protest or wearing stained sweatpants to Best Buy? Local stores—90 of ’em—are banding together for “Little Boxes,” which is basically just a big raffle for prizes like an iPad, but seems like a nice middle ground between attempting to bring consumerism to its knees or pushing someone down on a mad dash for the last Lalaloopsy doll.

The annual Macy’s Parade is 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. this Friday. Let’s Occupy it. Trimet wrote via email: This Friday, Nov. 25, service will be affected on lines 4, 9, 15, 16, 17, 20, 33, 35, 44 and 51 in Downtown Portland due to Macy’s Parade. Check trimet.org/f for details.

“The Macy’s Holiday Parade, one of Oregon’s most treasured family traditions, will begin promptly at 9 a.m. on the corner of NW Park and Davis. The parade will travel east on Davis to Broadway, south on Broadway to SW Alder, east on SW Alder (past Macy’s) to SW 4th, north on SW 4th to NW Flanders, west on SW Flanders to NW Park Avenue. The parade lasts approximately one hour. Those wishing to secure curbside seating are encouraged to arrive early.

“Featuring more than 25 inflatable floats, local school marching bands, community drill teams and over 400 costumed characters, this year’s parade will introduce a new balloon float. This new addition is a three-star helium balloon float. In addition, three new big head Marx Brothers characters will make their debut in this year’s parade. The Oregonian Dog float “Spot” will also make its way down the parade route. However, Santa Claus is sure to steal the show this year with the unveiling of his brand new sleigh.”

How many of us can we get to Occupy the Macy’s parade? It runs through downtown Portland 9:00a.m.- 11:00 a.m. Please post here if you can come.
