Message from the Director

Dear IPRC Members and Friends,

Greetings from the Independent Publishing Resource Center and happy new year to you all. The IPRC had an amazing new year’s eve: thanks to an overwhelming show of support, we exceeded our 2011 end-of-year fundraising goal of $20,000. A major portion of our Annual Drive took place via the Willamette Week’s Give!Guide, where we brought in $17,584, making us by far the top grossing arts nonprofit out of twenty organizations–an amazing feat considering that with only 2.5 employees, we were one of the smaller organizations in the Guide. This attests to the very hard work of our talented Board of Directors and our great team of volunteers, who spent the last couple weeks phone-banking and Facebooking for the Center.

But most of all, we owe everything to you, our supporters. We want to send our deepest thanks to everyone who came through to support the IPRC; with your help we’re entering 2012 with serious momentum, especially as we narrow down our search for a larger, more productive space for the IPRC (we’ll update you more on this soon).

We have a great lineup of public workshops in January including a special Creative Suite Package of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop—sign up for all three and get a discount. We also offer excellent classes in traditional practices like Bindfast 5 Perfect Binding, Intro to Letterpress and Intro to the Poster Press.

Along with our one-time workshops, we offer a yearlong Certificate Program with separate tracks in fiction/nonfiction; poetry; and comics/graphic novels. We’re now accepting applications for our 2012/2013 program; for more info or to apply visit iprc.org. Speaking of the Certificate Program, our current 2011/2012 students will read and present their work at a Show and Tell on January 24th at the Red and Black Cafe.

We’ll soon launch our newly redesigned IPRC website, along with some new online programming, including an 8-week online creative writing/digital publishing workshop, which will allow us to extend our mission to more individuals across Oregon and the U.S. If you’re interested in taking an online writing/publishing workshop, please contact iprcworkshops@gmail.com.

Thanks again for your support,

Justin Hocking, Executive Director
