Camp Quixote Reportback & History at Evergreen Friday
Join SDS (Students for a Democratic Society) for this presentation by Camp Quixote. Camp members will discuss the history of the camp, their plans for Quixote Village, and how people can get involved in making these dreams a reality!
In February of 2007, Camp Quixote was formed as a protest against the City of Olympia’s new law which would (and currently does) criminalize sitting on the sidewalk (Ordinance No. 6456n). Camp members and their friends, many of which attended Evergreen, courageously seized a parking lot downtown and set up a tent city. They sought to take control over their own lives and fight City Council’s attack against the homeless community. People were arrested and brutalized by police. For the past few years, they have moved from church to church every 90 days but now they are planning on acquiring a permanent site. Come hear about these plans and how to support the camp.
